“What the GEM team has taught me and the changes GEM brings about are transformative because now I see any issue regarding our project not only with a gender lens, but also focus on the question "why". Before GEM, I focused mainly on the physical and tangible differences between males and females. GEM has taught me to question "why". I know put gender everywhere in my work - at the start of the project, during the implementation of the project and the evaluation of the project and presenting the project.” -Mudasir Mustafa, Dareecha Project, Center for Research in Urdu Language Processing (CRULP), Pakistan

"Since using GEM, I've seen a change within myself, in trying to approach the problem from several different angles, and especially to consider gender." – - Sarah Nalwogo Mpagi, Research Coordinator, UgaBYTES, Uganda

“GEM gives us a way to redefine and monitor our impact and short term outcomes and change them as we face new objectives in order to achieve our larger proposal objectives. Gender development is a very broad topic - if you Google "gender development", you will find thousands of articles, but they don't necessarily give you a lens or scope through which to view it, but when you start designing your proposal with the GEM manual, and read it and look at gender empowerment, within GEM you will find that lens. It gives you a particular way of seeing gender issues. If you take the tools that you already have and combine with GEM, you get beautiful outcomes.” – Papy Clement Nkubuzi, Congo

The evaluation of gender dimensions is an important part of project design because achieving gender equality contributes to development effectiveness and social change. We help our clients understand the gender issues at stake in their projects and contexts—so that they are able to develop plans that can respond to the different needs of women as well as that of men.

We provide training on how to use Gender Evaluation Methodology in various contexts as well as gender sensitisation training and digital Storytelling training for evaluation. Our trainings are lively and interactive and we seek participant involvement. Our trainings are designed based on the needs of the participants and participants' continual feedback allows us to ensure that their needs are met.

We are committed and experienced gender evaluation practitioners who provide monitoring, evaluation and planning services to organisations to ensure that their efforts are impacting favourably on the lives of girls and women in their communities. We have a strong focus on building capacity in integrating gender and development in ICT-related or ICT-enabled initiatives in developing countries.

As gender evaluation specialists within the Association for Progressive Communications (APC)—the world's oldest online network working for social change and gender equality—we created the Gender Evaluation Methodology which has been used by hundreds of development initiatives around the world since 2002.

We are a multicultural and multilingual team and have built our reputation on:
1 Integrating gender into project planning
2 Mentoring, capacity-building and transfer of gender evaluation technical know-how
3 Effective collaboration with government agencies
4 Supporting organisational change and network building
5 Evaluation of information and communication and technology projects particularly ICT for development

We have extensive experience, expertise and established presence in developing countries in Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and in parts of Asia, particularly South Asia, Southeast Asia and East Asia.

All of our services are tailor built with our client. We recognize that each organization is unique and has their own way of working. We assess your needs and what you want to achieve with our involvement. We do not do evaluations for the sake of evaluations or training for the sake of training. Our services are designed to support you in improving your projects and programs and meeting your objectives.

Gender analysis involves a systematic assessment of the different impacts of issues, projects and developments on women and men. Used within an ICT context, gender analysis asserts that power relations in class, race, ethnicity, age, and geographic location interact with gender producing complex and hidden inequalities that affect social change. Without a clear understanding of these inequalities, many projects fail or are ineffectual. A gender analysis framework also looks into how ICTs, in particular, are used to maintain or bring about social change.
